Police brutality disproportionately affects marginalized communities, including but not limited to people of color, the LGBTQ+ community, the homeless population, sex workers, those struggling with mental illness, etc. They are supposedly trained to protect communities and deescalate situations, but instead unnecessarily murder, assault, and rape those under their watch, and frequently get away with it. They act only in the interest of powers upheld by white supremacy and are have been trained accordingly. They are complacent in a discriminatory, militarized, corrupt system and are responsible for the enforcement of said system. For that, they are inherently corrupt.
Do your duty as a citizen by not calling the police for trivial situations that are not potentially life-threatening or extremely dire. Especially not against those belonging to particularly vulnerable communities, who do not deserve to die or be wrongly incarcerated. If you are pulled over or stopped by an officer, film them. If you see police interrogating someone, and you are in a position that you are able to do so, film them. Look our for each other. Do your research. Know your rights.
This song was written for Mya Hall, Kayden Clarke, Mike Brown, Sandra Bland, Eric Garner and the thousands of other unarmed citizens wrongfully murdered by police.
